Stage One. Building the background of the painting, cream & prussian blue are mixed to give an undercoating, I find using two coats of paint always works best for creating a background, the colours are stronger & the colours blend more evenly. Always allow the first coat to dry , before painting the second….

Stage Two. Building the clouds, you can use your hands for this, don’t try too hard, just let your hands be loose & experiment a bit.

Stage Three Tracing and painting the silhouettes.  This really is easier done with tracing paper, I used to spend time trying to copy from photos , but this is faster & easier. but remember whatever you trace will appear on your painting in reverse, I used a 2b pencil for this stage.  I was unsure whether to paint the silhouettes in black or brown, but in the end i do think brown worked best.

A small brush is need for the detail on the painting

Stage Four Adding the shadows, this is done using a brown colour pencil. Build the colour up gently , until you are pleased with the way it looks, you dont need to make it too detailed.

And lastly the edges need to be painted…I hope this is of some use to people !

My name is Stuart Wright, and I am an abstract & landscape artist in the West Midlands. I`ve been painting pictures for over 20 years & I am mostly self taught.i like the flow of the work, creating something from nothing, glimpsing a direction to go in, then trying to capture a feeling of warmth or spontaneity, or charm to bring the paintings to life. I studied illustration at university, also doing courses in landscape, figure work & abstracts In 2005 I began selling my original abstract paintings on eBay and I am known there as Wrightson Arts & in art gallerys..I continue to create original paintings to sell on eBay, as well as offering original paintings on this website... My paintings are a process of exploration. There are no messages or hidden agendas, other than to reveal the discoveries made during my investigations. Perhaps I do take cues from familiar surroundings and perhaps old rustic buildings, aged surfaces golds, reds, burnt umbers, autumn leaves,do find their way into my work. Working with texture and colour is intoxicating. There is, of course, the seed of an idea or a bit of a plan when I begin, but I am quickly directed by the work, answering the needs, sorting the puzzles and discovering solutions. I work with layers of thick and thin color, washed or scumbled over a textured surface. Traces are left by assorted mark makers, lines are straight, curved or gestural, surfaces are wiped, dripped and spattered, all adding to an eventual sense of accumulation and the essence of time. I love architecture, volleyball and mountain biking. I used to think of becoming an Architect, but I never liked the technical aspect of it The paint used in my work is of the best quality, all the original designs are my own.
